This picture shows a portrait of Ethel Cuff Black, a founding member of the historically black sorority Delta Sigma Theta. Ethel grew up in Wilmington, DE and later became a faculty member at Delaware State College. It was during her time at Howard University in Washington, DC that she broke away from her role as vice-president of Alpha Kappa Alpha to create a new sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, that aimed to tackle issues like public service and women's advancement.
