Burial Ground for Enslaved People at John Dickinson Plantation
-
Recognizes and restores dignity to Delaware's early enslaved individuals.
-
Hundreds of enslaved people were held in bondage at the John Dickinson Plantation since at least the late 18th century. The recent discovery (March 9, 2021) of a burial ground on the property that includes the remains of enslaved people and African Americans who lived, worked and died on Dickinson's land recognizes the history of enslavement on this site and helps restore the dignity to these individuals whose graves had been erased.
